I just haven't gotten used to this city enough even after almost a year now! Most of the time, I just hate the traffic, the dust, the crowds and even the people. Nothing rascist there...it's just that I find the random people on the streets so loud n arrogant with very little public manners. But then...where in India is it any different?
On the other hand, I'm fascinted by this city. Built, destroyed n rebuilt 7 times. Finding a mention in the Mahabharata is Indraprasth with the nigmabodh ghat, which today is the name of a metro station and the ghat still exists!!! Show me another place in the world that can claim something like that! Mehrauli of Prithviraj Chauhan....still very much in place. Purana quila of the Sulatns! The Shahjahanbad of Shahjahan with his chandni chowk n lal quila! Old, nay, ancient monuments just sneak up from nowhere when u turn a corner, right the amidst the newest of buildings. The seat of power from where the whole of the Indo-Gangetic planes have been ruled for centuries! The city that today is rising again, as the capital of a rising India, to reclaim it's old glory.
Delhi!! I don't know what I feel for you. But what I know for sure is you evoke emotions that no other city can.... I guess, I love the Idea of Delhi though I haven't gotten to the stage where I actually like Delhi. But then, who knows! For Delhi grows on you, slowly, seeping into your being, making you get used to it over time, so much that when you finally decide enough is enough, n pack your bags to head back home, you realise, you're in love with Delhi!
